The three principal islands in the U.S. Virgin Islands are St. Croix, St. John, and St. Thomas. St. Croix is the largest and lies 45 miles south of St. Thomas - capital Charlotte Amalie - in the Caribbean Sea. St. John, 2/3 of which is a national park, is three miles east of St. Thomas.

Named after the legendary St. Ursula and her beautiful 11,000 Virgins, the unspoiled islands were discovered by Columbus in 1493. More than a million visitors come each year to relax where the year round temperature is 79 degrees Fahrenheit, with steady trade winds and a wide range of accommodations. Visitors enjoy excellent sports - diving, tennis, golf, sailing, boardsailing, camping, etc. - ,the tremendous shopping and sightseeing.

St. Thomas has an area of 32 square miles, St. Croix covers 84 square miles, and St. John is 20 square miles. Their total population is 110,000.
