The lush, green island of Montserrat offers serenity, beauty, a wide array of activities and the friendliest of people. Unique to Montserrat is its Irish heritage, and the week of celebrations that surround Saint Patrick's Day each year. Recreation includes diving, sailing, snorkeling, windsurfing, water-skiing, fishing, tennis and golfing -- the island has one of the finest golf courses in the Eastern Caribbean. Verdant mountains attract nature lovers, bird watchers, hikers, and cyclists.

Montserrat covers 39 square miles. It is 12 miles long and 7 miles wide. As a result of volcanic activity, the population, which a few years ago was 10,639, is now about 4,000.
